I am an artist-researcher based in Winchester.
I would like to organize a small peaceful one hour
march on Sunday, 8.10.2017, in Winchester, in solidarity with 'Women Wage Peace', an
Israeli-Palestinian movement
who is having a march called: 'Journey to Peace',
from 24.9 to 10.10.2017 in Israel.
'Women Wage Peace's massage is: only a political
agreement will bring peace.
You may follow this link for additional
information.
In terms of number of participants, I am guessing
about 50 or so.
Suggested rout: meeting at Abby Gardens at 11:00.
From there to Winchester Cathedral, to High St., to Jewry St., to N. Walls, to
River Park Leisure Center, to Park Ave. to Middle Brook St. to High St. to
Winchester Guildhall, and back to Abby Gardens.

Many thanks for the notification of this planned
peaceful march around Winchester, and I believe that you have also informed the
local authority of the planned action, and hope that the authority have replied
to you an acknowledged the march taking place.
Please can I ask that you ensure that the march
takes place on the public footpaths and not in the carriageways. Please could I
also ask that the highway code is adhered to in as far as using pedestrian
crossing points and none of the participants obstruct the free flow of traffic
on the highways.
Due to the expected numbers of attendees it would
be beneficial to have some of your group acting as marshals in order to ensure
that people are safe when taking part in the procession, and the wearing of
high visibility tops would ensure that they are visible to the participants.
Having someone with first aid qualification and a first aid kit to assist with
any slips of falls, may also be of benefit especially if the weather conditions
are wet.
I wish you well and thank you once again for the
notification.

I walked in Winchester wearing my Tzitzit. A man asked me what this is about
and I explained. He said he supported Israel. I felt warm in my heart hearing
this, then I thought: "Wait, but what if I was a Palestinian, how would I
feel hearing these words?" I said that I am an Israeli who is trying to
re-educate herself by reading Palestinian literature, meeting Palestinian
people and listening to their stories. Importantly, I am staying away from a
binary 'good/bad' world view. And he agreed!

amplify the massage that only a political agreement between Israel and the
Palestinians will end the cycle of violence and prevent the next war. We don't
want another war!!!

Walked in Andover.
These two lovely men wanted to know about the walk today
at Andover near the river. They support us!
Today I went for a meeting before the Peace walk.
Thank you Maija Liepins for bringing
me a white rose as a gesture of support. Every person who asks and shows interest in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and
expresses his or her wish for a peaceful political agreement gives a boost to
Women Wage Peace.
Day 4 – 27.9.2017
Walked with Sarit Bloom in
London.
Here in
London I had the pleasure of meeting Sarit Bloom, a dedicate member of WWP and
wonderful woman. We peace walked along the Thames and talked - in Hebrew - and
listened to each-other and to all the other voices and noises: of people, cars,
small waves, large ambitions and the endless horizon of hopes. We paused and
looked at the river. Sarit said that the sand looked whiter than usual. A young
man was perfecting his parkour skills. It made me
think of a wonderful book that my friend of many years Christine Donovan had written. Thank you
Sarit for meeting and walking with me today. Good luck to Women Wage Peace as
we are promoting and demanding a political agreement.

Day 5 – 28.9.2018
Walked in Barton Stacey.
Even
when I pause for a moment or two everything around me keeps on moving within
the larger continuity of movement and change. I was thinking today, as I was
walking, about the concepts of hope, despair and agreement. It is only at the
place where I lost hope that I can look for new hopes. Agreement is between you
and me, we both agree. I need you to be present. You and I facing each-other conversing listening present
together between understanding and not understanding; inhaling the same air,
exhaling subjective air into our shared space, expanding intimate spaces,
making room for difference, connecting and building new understanding. It is
only at the place where we lost hope that we can look for - and perhaps find -
new hopes. And despair moves out within the larger continuity of movement and
change.

say "Well done?" I should have said: "Only a political agreement
will end the bloody cycle of violence". Oh well, next time...
A brief dialogue with a local man who
seemed surprised that Israeli women are walking for peace.

Day 7 – 30.9.2017
Walked around the
outskirts of Barton Stacey.
I came across this interesting
junction which shows different signs. There is a 'Public footpath' sign which
communicates that this path is open to the public. Next to it there are army
signs warning not to walk on this public path when red flags are showing, as
this land, owned by the MOD (Ministry of Defense), is a shooting range. In
effect, it is used by the farmers, the army
and the public.
הגעתי לצומת מעניינת של קבוצת שלטים. שלט אחד מצביע לכיוון 'שביל ציבורי' פתוח לכל. לצידו שלטי צבא שמזהירים לא ללכת בשביל כשיש דגלים אדומים מכיוון שזהו שטח מטווחים. ביום-יום החקלאים, הצבא והציבור משתמשים באותו שטח.

I took food left-overs to the compost at the bottom of our
garden, that was the beginning of the walk. The compost is more than
a place or a practice; it is a collaboration where human and non-human
participate in a non human centered exchange.
John Paul Lederach writes: 'A key to constructive social change lies in that which makes social fabric, relationships, and relational spaces.' (Lederach, The Moral Imagination, 2005).
I recognize a relational space both in the compost and
in the road that we are walking.
Thank
you Ruth Facey for coming to
the sign workshop yesterday and making your beautiful paperscapes. Also for
baking and bringing a lovely cake; for your stories, time and efforts. It was
great to spend a few hours together.

10th day of ima's peace
walk supporting Women Wage Peace's Journey To Peace
24.9-10.10.2017. Today I walked in Winchester. A cyclist
stopped by my side and asked about the strips of white fabric (a torn bed sheet) attached to my white shirt. I
said it was ima's Tzitzit "to remind me of my duty in the world as a
woman". Only a political agreement will end the cycle of violence!

I walked in Winchester today, 11th day
of ima's peace walk in solidarity with Women Wage Peace. Only a political
agreement will end the cycle of violence and let's hope that the only red things on the ground is a carpet of autumn leaves.
